Nobel Prize winner George Seferis spent time on Poros Island where he wrote the poem ‘Kichli’, inspired by a ship wreck near the shores of Poros.

Periklis assisted the Arte TV crew, taking them with our sailing boat -Naziara- to the location where Kichli was laying sunk and offering insights into Seferis’ time spent on Poros Island.

The section on Poros Island and Seferis starts at 11:56 of the video.

In these difficult times for humankind, it is worth remembering how Seferis described the plight of humanity in his poem Kichli:

“Lands of the sun yet cannot face the sun.

Lands of humans yet cannot face humanity.”
